License

Our derived tables are released under CC0 1.0: no rights reserved. Please cite the City source rather than us.

The source records keep their source's terms, listed beside each table. City open data on data.lacity.org (311 and lobbying) is CC0, public domain. The Controller's datasets on controllerdata.lacity.org (the checkbook, budget and payroll) are CC BY 4.0, which asks that the Office of the Los Angeles City Controller be credited.

Two sources state no license in their metadata: the Behested Payment Reports (ybqa-gmkn) and the Homelessness Expense Tracker (98ve-cuf5). They are City public records; check terms with the City before reusing them at scale. The 2026-27 budget and homelessness funding figures are taken from City Administrative Officer documents.

Nothing downloadable holds data the site hides: no people paid only lawsuit or claim settlements, no individuals' names from the lobbying or behested-payment records, no addresses, and nothing from the /block address lookups.

API

A read-only API with the same tables. No key, open CORS, GET only. Responses are cached for an hour and served from the nightly copies; nothing queries the City's portals live.

The catalogue:

GET https://www.lareceipts.com/api/v1/datasets

One table, as JSON or CSV:

GET https://www.lareceipts.com/api/v1/datasets/funds
GET https://www.lareceipts.com/api/v1/datasets/funds?format=csv

Every JSON response has the same shape (version 1). Field names and values are in English.

{

An unknown key returns 404; a format other than json or csv, 400; a table whose nightly copy is missing, 503. Fiscal years are named by the year they end (2026 = July 2025 to June 2026). Amounts are in dollars unless the column name says millions.

Each table lists its official sources and their licenses above. Licenses checked against each dataset's own metadata on October 2, 2026.
