What's happening near me?
Enter an address to count 311 requests, building permits, reported crime and City-funded affordable housing within about a quarter mile, each against the same stretch of time a year earlier.
Your address goes to LA County's address geocoder (or, if it finds no match, the U.S. Census geocoder), and its location to the City's map service for the council district. Everything else uses a point rounded to about 100 meters. LA Receipts doesn't store any of it, and it never appears in this page's address.
How this works
- The address is turned into a map point by LA County's address geocoder (or, if it finds no match, the U.S. Census geocoder). That point is used once, exactly, to find the council district on the City's map service. It is then rounded to the nearest 0.001° (about 100 meters) and we look within about a quarter mile (400 meters) of the rounded point, so the queries sent to the City's open-data portal name an area shared by neighboring addresses, not yours.
- Nothing is saved, logged or cached. The result is not a link: to see it again, enter the address again. Sharing this page shares only the empty form.
- 311 requests cover the last 90 days. Building permits cover the last 12 months. Reported crime covers the last six complete months that LAPD has finished posting. Each is compared with the same dates a year earlier where a comparison makes sense.
- These are counts of records, not ratings. A busy street or a large building can produce many records; more 311 requests can mean more people reporting, not more problems.
